Toowong is an inner western suburb situated on the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The Toowong and District Historical Society Inc (TDHS) is an incorporated non-profit organisation that was established in 2003. Our aim is to foster interest in and research the history of Toowong and surrounding suburbs, particularly those which were part of the former Toowong Shire. Today that covers Toowong, Milton, Auchenflower and parts of Mt. Coot-tha.
TDHS is very active in collecting and publishing reminiscences of the area; erecting signage and placing plaques at places of historical interest; providing photograph displays, conducting history walks for school children; and has published several publications. In addition, the Society is dedicated to the collection of local history materials which can be made available, on request, to members and approved researchers.
TDHS is affiliated with the Royal Historical Society of Queensland Inc and is a member of History Queensland and Queensland Women’s Historical Association and is an associate member of the Brisbane Living Heritage Network.
