The Toowong and District Historical Society Inc. meets monthly on the fourth Friday of the month from January to November.
Monthly meetings feature a guest speaker on topics of historical interest and have included family histories, guest speakers from various historical institutions, book talks by published historians, biographies, the history of other areas, local community organisations, schools and churches, and a wide variety of other topics.
Everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy the morning tea which follows the presentation.
Our Meetings are held at the West Toowong Bowls Club, Bywong Street, Toowong. Please note that the West Toowong Bowls Club bar opens at 11.00 am and snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase.

The history of Brisbane’s Albert Hall presented by Prof. Peter Roennfeldt
Noted cultural historian and author, Professor Peter Roennfeldt will speak about his latest book, It all happened at Brisbane’s Albert Hall; A story of this city’s central venue 1901-1969. Albert Hall was a 700 seat venue operating until 1969 when it was demolished to make way for the Suncorp (SGIO) building. Albert Hall hosted a wide range of political, social an wartime events and performers including Percy Grainger, Dame Sybil Thorndike, Sir Douglas Mawson, Lord Louis Mountbatten and Dame Enid Lyons.
